New Advertising Campaign Promotes The First Amendment

1 For All Gallery

A new advertising campaign aims to educate Americans about the First Amendment.

Ken Paulson is the director of the Free Speech Center at Middle Tennessee State University, which developed the campaign. He says no one has ever "effectively marketed the First Amendment."

Paulson says a third of Americans cannot name a single freedom in the First Amendment. The ads feature artists, authors and athletes discussing those five freedoms — free speech, a free press, religious freedom, the freedom to peaceably assemble and the freedom to petition the government.

The ads are being distributed by newspapers and media organizations around the country.
