New PPP Poll Shows McConnell Ahead of Grimes

Kentucky Secretary of State/U.S. Senate

Polls for the 2014 Kentucky U.S. Senate race between Sen. Mitch McConnell and Alison Lundergan Grimes remain tight, but the five-term incumbent might be edging slightly ahead according to a top pollster.

Public Policy Polling released a new poll Tuesday that gives McConnell a 44-40 lead over Grimes, with 7 percent voicing their support for Libertarian candidate David Patterson. Of the 991 likely voters polled August 7-10, 9 percent say they are still undecided.

PPP suggests that Grimes could make up the difference via the 11 percent of women voters who remain undecided. She currently leads among women voters by only one percentage point, according to the poll.

Looking ahead to 2015, those polled gave the edge to Democratic gubernatorial candidate Jack Conway over four different potential Republican rivals - James Comer, Cathy Bailey, Hal Heiner and Matt Bevin. Comer and Bevin polled the closest to Conway, each trailing by three points.
