New Website Helps Locate Kentucky Pharmacies That Have Anti-Overdose Drug

Aaron Payne | Ohio Valley ReSource

The Kentucky Office of Drug Control Policy has launched a new website that helps people find the locations of pharmacies that have naloxone – a medication that can reverse the effects of an opioid overdose.

An anti-heroin bill passed last year allows certified pharmacies to give the drug to the family members of an opioid user or first responders without prescriptions.

In the Jackson Purchase, all six pharmacies listed on the website are CVS locations – three in Paducah and in Murray, Mayfield and Benton.

The website also includes testimonials and tips on how to respond to an overdose.

According to the Ohio Valley ReSource, there were more than 1,200 opioid overdose-related deaths in Kentucky last year.
