It's finally happened. The WKMS backup transmitter from 1979 is no more. And the main trasmitter from 1994 has had some challenges resulting in some off-air time for parts of the WKMS listening area earlier this fall.
Since new transmitters take weeks to build, relying on just one that's over 25 years old is a problem. Which means we're working quickly to get you a replacement for this vital equipment. The new transmitter will be more efficient, help provide a stronger signal for the WKMS HD signals and will take the place of the current transmitter. Allowing our decades-old one to take a much needed rest as the new backup.
Of course, almost $150,000 (in 2020 of all years) is a big spend for a small shop. If you can help, your donation today helps keep your radio on the air. Thank you!
Looking for ways to help your community too?
For every gift through December 9th, Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership will donate $10 to the United Way of Paducah-McCracken County to help with utilities and rent assistance in this tough year. That's up to $1500 to help families in need when listeners help the station this year.
In addition, our friends at Pepper's Automotive in Paris, TN will match your contributions to WKMS (up to $12,000).
In a year where so much has been a challenge, this is a great time to help bring a little positivity to the end of 2020.
