No Decision Yet on Fate of Farley Elementary Property

At a McCracken County Board of Education meeting last week, members deliberated without making a decision on whether to sell or lease the Farley Elementary School building after it closes later this year.

McCracken County Schools spokeswoman Jayme Jones said there was much deliberation during the closed door meeting last Thursday.

“The board chair let everyone in the board room know that there are several parties interested in buying or leasing that property and that they will look at what is best for the community of Farley and for the school district," Jones said.

Jones said Farley Elementary is closing due to low attendance.

“What they’re wanting to do is just combine Reidland and Farley Elementary and then open up Reidland Intermediate School for the fourth and fifth graders, kind of like they’ve done in the Lone Oak area,” Jones said.

Jones said it is unlikely that any teachers would lose their jobs dues to the merger, but adds that staffing decisions will continue to be based on enrollment.
