A treatment center specializing in opioid addiction has opened in Calloway County. Clear Creek Medical Center is the second location of Dr. Robert Howard’s western Kentucky-based program.

While opioids usually refer to prescription drugs like lortabs and percocets, they can also include other drugs like heroin. Howard said Kentucky outranks the rest of the country 2 to 1 when it comes to babies being born with an opioid addiction. He said there is a need for help.

“The pattern of abuse has sort of trickled westward from the eastern side of the state, and up in the northern part of Kentucky and Cincinnati. It’s sort of reached epidemic proportions.” Howard said.

Howard said his program primarily uses the prescription drug Suboxone, which helps treat pain as well as addiction. Howard said his treatments help people gain control of their addictions and get back to their normal lives. The center is located at 104 North 4th street in Murray and can be reached at 270-226-1100.
