Paducah Artist Displays Work in Cincinnati and South Korea Galleries

Paducah Arts Alliance

A Paducah artist’s work is on display at galleries in South Korea and Ohio.

Paul Lorenz is one of  85 artists who submitted work for the Manifest Creative Research Gallery’s “Kentucky Regional Showcase” in Cincinnati. Lorenz says he is thrilled to be associated with Manifest.

“I was very happy and very surprised [to be selected]. I’ve applied for Manifest in the past and have been rejected,” Lorenz said. “I know that they are very stringent about the work they jury into exhibitions.”

Lorenz’s piece ‘Opening with 1300 Lines’ is one of eight works to be featured in the Manifest Gallery’s annual publication. Lorenz said he’s been working with lines since he moved to Kentucky around 2002. He created ‘Opening with 1300 Lines’ by drawing over an oil painting on a panel.

“Basically it was my reaction to the surface of the oil painting as I was drawing,” Lorenz said. “This opening was there, I wanted to preserve it, and ultimately I drew 1,300 lines to complete the composition.”

Lorenz’s work is also featured in the South Korean Czong Institute for Contemporary Art Museum’s “Abstract Mind” exhibit. He says it is the first exhibit where he is showing a digital piece. The Kentucky Regional Showcase is on display through April 7 and Abstract Mind closes April 16.
