In response to recent Paducah Power price spikes, the Paducah Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors sent a letter asking the general manager to explore alternative electricity sources to keep rates competitive.
President of the Paducah Area Chamber of Commerce Sandra Wilson says the chamber has been receiving calls from members and non-members concerned about electric rates. She says the high electric rates could eventually hurt Paducah’s ability to attract new businesses.
“We have over a thousand businesses in this community that belong to the Paducah Chamber. And so, we take that role of representing them and being pro-business, or business advocacy group, very seriously.”
A spokesperson from Paducah Power says the business will respond to the Chamber directly within the next few days. A representative from Paducah Power will give an update on rate spikes and relations with Prairie State Energy Campus, from which it gets the bulk of its power, at the Paducah City Commission Meeting on Tuesday, September 23.
