Paducah-McCracken Convention Center Board Approves VenuWorks Contract

The Paducah-McCracken County Convention Center Corporation Board recently approved a five-year contract with a management company to oversee operations.

Board Chair Brian Katz said the convention center is financially self-sufficient and expects that to continue under the Iowa-based company VenuWorks.

“The convention center is doing quite well before they come on board. We expect them to continue that trajectory,” Katz said. “And of course there’s an expense for having them so they will have to grow revenue to be able to remain self-sufficient given that their management itself will be a significant expense”

Katz said the board hired a third-party company because it was too much for a volunteer board to oversee day-to-day operations. He expects VenuWorks to produce more regional events to bring in tourist dollars and benefit local businesses. He said the convention center will also have a new kitchen in roughly six months to make and sell food.

VenuWorks signed the contract Monday. In addition to operating and managing the center, they will be in charge of marketing and promotion.
