The City of Paducah will meet with the Kentucky Labor Cabinet next week to discuss a citation following safety inspections at Parks and Recreation facilities.
The city said in a release on Friday the citation from the Division of OSH Compliance follows inspections last November and February. The November inspection followed a complaint to the division.
City representatives will present on June 7 in Frankfort evidence demonstrating recent efforts to correct safety issues listed in the report. The city hopes for an adjustment to the citations that currently total $37,150 dollars.
Those issues include trucks lacking safety kits, broken trailer lights, maintaining and stocking protective equipment, updating data sheets in chemical storage areas, installing an eye wash and signage at a pool and sprayground.
Here is the list of corrections that have been addressed, per the release:
- Stocked first aid kits and spill kits in trucks lacking kits;
- Repaired broken lights on a trailer;
- Stocked facilities with required personal protective equipment;
- Updated safety data sheets in locations where chemicals are stored;
- Installed an eye wash station at the Robert Coleman Sprayground; and
- Worked to ensure confined space entry and training policies and procedures are in place and ordered confined space warning signage for the pump pits at the Noble Park Pool and the Robert Coleman Sprayground.
City Manager Jim Arndt said, “The safety of City of Paducah employees is one of our highest priorities. We are committed to providing and maintaining a safe workplace. I am proud that we hold each other accountable so that everyone remains healthy.”
Parks & Recreation Department Director Mark Thompson said, “I have appreciated the opportunity to work with Kentucky Labor Cabinet. The inspections have been great opportunities to reinforce the importance of wearing personal protective equipment, maintaining and inspecting equipment, and stocking necessary supplies and hazard mitigation equipment. The City’s employees have made these topics part of weekly safety briefings and daily discussions.”
Paducah has until June 3 to correct the alleged violations. The city says the alleged violations have either been corrected or are being addressed.
