Ray McLennan has resigned as both Paducah Power Board chair and member.

McLennan’s action came at today’s PPS board meeting.

Mayor Gayle Kaler and City Commissioners Sandra Wilson, Richard Abraham, Carol Gault and Allan Rhodes signed a letter presented at the meeting calling for McLennan's resignation from the board immediately.

"We believe that a change in leadership is in the best interest of the ratepayers of Paducah," the letter reads. "The problems that we face have become severe and swift action is required to resolve these issues and prevent further difficulties in our community."

McLennan has recently drawn criticism over a controversial Facebook post as well as from higher-than-projected city electric rates after the utility bought into the Prairie State Energy Campus in Illinois.

Vice Chair Hardy Roberts will serve as the interim replacement until elections next June.

McLennan was the only remaining board member from the group involved in making the Prairie State Energy Campus deal.

Before resigning, McLennan put a call out for Paducah Power General Manager Dave Clark to resign but none of the board members made a motion to do so.

Todd Hatton hails from Paducah, Kentucky, where he got into radio under the auspices of the late, great John Stewart of WKYX while a student at Paducah Community College. He also worked at WKMS in the reel-to-reel tape days of the early 1990s before running off first to San Francisco, then Orlando in search of something to do when he grew up. He received his MFA in Creative Writing at Murray State University. He vigorously resists adulthood and watches his wife, Angela Hatton, save the world one plastic bottle at a time.
Whitney grew up listening to Car Talk to and from her family’s beach vacation each year, but it wasn’t until a friend introduced her to This American Life that radio really grabbed her attention. She is a recent graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she studied journalism. When she’s not at WKMS, you can find her working on her backyard compost pile and garden, getting lost on her bicycle or crocheting one massive blanket.
