Condolences are pouring in online following the death of long-time Murray arts supporter Emily Wilson Wolfson.
She passed away Thursday at the age of 99. After receiving her Master of Arts degree, she taught art at several universities, and retired from Murray State Teachers College. She helped to found the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsmen and was instrumental in organizing the Art Train, which provided art instruction around the state in two railroad cars.
Wolfson was also an active member and supporter of the Murray Art Guild. Kentucky Governor Martha Collins awarded Wolfson the Community Arts Award in 1987 in recognition of her work. There will be a memorial at Murray State University June 27.
