Republican Primary Likely for Hopkinsville Mayoral Race

hoptown.org

A republican primary is shaping up in Hopkinsville's mayoral race.

Two candidates have announced their intentions to run for the mayor seat currently held by Dan Kemp.  Kemp announced last month that he won't be seeking re-election

Christian County Chamber of Commerce President Carter Hendricks announced last week he will be stepping down from the Chamber in January to run, and retired business owner Jason McCraw said he plans to file within the week to challenge Hendricks in the May 2014 primary.

Hendricks hopes to grow the community and focus on education.

McCraw is a Vietnam veteran and previously mounted two unsuccessful city council campaigns.  He says he doesn't believe Hendricks is a true conservative and city government should be more efficient.

The base salary for the mayor's seat is $68,000 dollars, based on the city's fiscal year budget.
