A school supply drive to aid children of families impacted by the shutdown of the Blackjewel mining company will take place on Saturday at the Fancy Farm Picnic.

Teacher and public employee advocacy group KY United We Stand is organizing the drive. The group is collecting the supplies and will connect with family resource centers to deliver them.

Founder Katie Hancock says schools can never have too many supplies, including tissues and disinfecting wipes.

“We’re just asking for whatever you can,” Hancock said. “The people that we usually interact with are state employees, county employees and teachers. None of us have a whole lot of extra to give but we try with what we can.”

The drive is from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fancy Farm Picnic.
