A round of arctic temps and winter weather could cause hazardous road conditions this weekend.
The National Weather Service in Paducah says isolated thunderstorms and heavy rainfall will enter the area from the west Saturday. But a bout of warm air pushing temperatures into the mid-sixties should prevent icy precipitation, at least until Saturday night when temps plunge into the teens behind an arctic cold front. Locally, rain will end as a period of freezing rain, sleet and possibly snow.
Kentucky Transportation Cabinet Officials warn that the heavy rain tomorrow will make pre-treating roads with salt difficult, but trucks will remain on standby in each district.
KYTC asks motorists to do their part by checking tire tread and preparing their vehicle for winter travel. NWS says any snow will only accumulate to about half an inch.
Wind chill readings early Sunday morning will be from zero to 5 below zero across western Kentucky and southern Illinois.
