Something From Nothing: Pacific Island Inspired Jerry Phillips

Justin Lewis

This episode of Something from Nothing features artist Jerry Phillips. The son of two immigrants, one of which is retired military.

Jerry starts by telling the story of how his parents made it to Kentucky and describes what it is like for him to have grown up in a home influenced by the Pacific Islands.

His art has historically taken influence from this culture he was taught at home but he explains why he does not necessarily want that to be the driving factor of the exhibit he had at the Yeiser Art Center, where we conducted the interview.

Jerry is not currently living in the western Kentucky region but is a Murray State graduate who lives in Nashville spending his days working for Vanderbilt.
