Dr. Constantine Curris speaks at this semester’s final installment of Murray State University’s seminar series, “Adventures: Life and Its Experiences” about events that shaped his life in his early twenties.
The series allows students, faculty, alumni and the community to interact with speakers who have a wealth of academic and entrepreneurial experiences. Speakers will discuss their experiences related to their successes and their challenges.
Curris serves as the chair of Murray State’s board of regents and is retired from the presidency of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, a position he held for almost 10 years. He was the fourth chief executive for AASCU, a national association of more than 400 public colleges and universities. Curris has been associated with AASCU since 1973 as a member of several association committees and its board of directors, where he served as chairman.
A Kentucky native, Curris has held the presidency at three universities — Murray State University for 10 years, the University of Northern Iowa for 12 years and Clemson University in South Carolina for four years.
Other professional experiences include appointments to the 1998 Commission on the Future of the South, the Kellogg Commission on the Future of State and Land-Grant Universities, the Education Commission of the States, the Iowa Board of Economic Development, the South Carolina Research Authority, the Sigma Chi Foundation, and the chairmanships of American Humanics and the Iowa Task Force on Teacher Education and Certification.
Curris received his baccalaureate and doctorate degrees from the University of Kentucky and his master’s degree from the University of Illinois.
The seminar series is free and open to all Murray State students, faculty and staff, as well as community members. Everyone is encouraged to attend.
“Adventures: Life and Its Experiences” is co-sponsored by Dr. Renee Fister with the Provost Office, and is coordinated by Fister and Dr. Renae Duncan.
