WKMS begins a new audience service that brings you recordings of speakers at Murray State University, titled "Speaker's Corner." If you have a recording of a recent lecture or presentation at Murray State that you'd like to see featured in this section, please send an inquiry to msu.wkms@murraystate.edu.If you are bringing an interesting speaker to our region, contact us. We would like to give everyone a chance to hear the presentation. We can put the audio here at wkms.org, with your help. This is a new service for Murray State University and our coverage area communities. We will also promote the presence of this recording at Speakers Corner on our air for two weeks following the date of the audio being placed online. We will schedule a flight of scripts identifying the presenter, subject, date and place of recording and sponsoring organization to be read by WKMS announcers during that time.E-mail msu.wkms@murraystate.edu with Speakers Corner as subject and give us the name of the presenter, subject of presentation, date and place of recording and sponsoring organization, and contact information for a person with whom we can discuss how you might help get the audio to us, because we will not always have personnel available to record. Thank you!

Dr. Constantine Curris speaks at this semester’s final installment of Murray State University’s seminar series, “Adventures: Life and Its Experiences” about events that shaped his life in his early twenties.

The series allows students, faculty, alumni and the community to interact with speakers who have a wealth of academic and entrepreneurial experiences. Speakers will discuss their experiences related to their successes and their challenges.

Curris serves as the chair of Murray State’s board of regents and is retired from the presidency of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, a position he held for almost 10 years. He was the fourth chief executive for AASCU, a national association of more than 400 public colleges and universities. Curris has been associated with AASCU since 1973 as a member of several association committees and its board of directors, where he served as chairman.

A Kentucky native, Curris has held the presidency at three universities — Murray State University for 10 years, the University of Northern Iowa for 12 years and Clemson University in South Carolina for four years.

Other professional experiences include appointments to the 1998 Commission on the Future of the South, the Kellogg Commission on the Future of State and Land-Grant Universities, the Education Commission of the States, the Iowa Board of Economic Development, the South Carolina Research Authority, the Sigma Chi Foundation, and the chairmanships of American Humanics and the Iowa Task Force on Teacher Education and Certification.

Curris received his baccalaureate and doctorate degrees from the University of Kentucky and his master’s degree from the University of Illinois.

The seminar series is free and open to all Murray State students, faculty and staff, as well as community members. Everyone is encouraged to attend.

“Adventures: Life and Its Experiences” is co-sponsored by Dr. Renee Fister with the Provost Office, and is coordinated by Fister and Dr. Renae Duncan.

Whitney grew up listening to Car Talk to and from her family’s beach vacation each year, but it wasn’t until a friend introduced her to This American Life that radio really grabbed her attention. She is a recent graduate from Union University in Jackson, Tenn., where she studied journalism. When she’s not at WKMS, you can find her working on her backyard compost pile and garden, getting lost on her bicycle or crocheting one massive blanket.
