Third COVID-19 Case Confirmed In McCracken County

Creative Commons

A third case of the novel coronavirus is confirmed in McCracken County.

The Purchase District Health Department said in a media release the patient is in stable condition. The department is working with the Centers for Disease Control and the Kentucky Department of Public Health to identify those who may have been exposed to the individual. Close contacts will be monitored for symptoms of the virus.

The first two COVID-19 cases were reported in the county this week. Calloway County is the only other county in the Jackson Purchase region with confirmed cases.

“We believe the risk to the general public is low, and as this situation evolves, we will continue to communicate with the CDC, KDPH, and the people of McCracken County,” said county Public Health Director Kent Koster. “The best way to prevent illness is to avoid being exposed to this virus. However, there are simple preventative actions you can do to help prevent the spread of this virus.”

Those preventative actions include proper hygiene. The department recommends thoroughly washing your hands, staying home if you are sick, and avoiding contact with those who are sick. If you are concerned but healthy, call the Kentucky COVID-19 hotline at 1-800-722-5725. If you believe you are sick, contact your medical provider.
