Todd County is receiving more than $4 million from the federal government as part of a national investment in rural water infrastructure improvements. The U.S. Department of Agriculture announced on Tuesday $1.2 billion toward projects in 46 states.
The Todd County Water District is receiving a $3,210,000 loan and a $390,000 grant to construct two miles of water line and a 500,000-gallon water storage tank for incoming Novelis Industries. The industrial site is expected to require one million gallons of water each day. The project also involves relocating a line on U.S. Hwy 79 for a road widening project.
The City of Guthrie is also receiving a $583,000 loan and an $8,245 grant to construct 4,000 linear feet of gravity sewer for the site. This will accommodate 250,000 gallons per day of wastewater capacity for the site. Additional funding for this project includes a $158,755 grant from the Delta Regional Authority.
Novelis will manufacture automotive aluminum sheets at the new $305 million facility in Guthrie and plans to create 125 full-time jobs. Company leaders have said they expect the plant to be operational by 2020.
