Trigg County Rolls Out Text-To-911 Dispatch Capabilities

Trigg County Dispatch

Trigg County is expanding 911 dispatch services by allowing residents to text into its answering system.

Trigg County Dispatch in a Facebook post this week outlined the county’s plan to implement “text-to-911” capabilities. The county plans to use a service called “Texty” from the online provider INdigital. The platform allows the Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP) to 'add on' non-voice (SMS) texts to an existing phase II E-911 call.

The first phase begins this week with dropped 911 calls receiving a text response from a dispatcher when there is no answer on callback. The county expects full functionality for inbound and outbound messaging in September.

“Once we are fully functional and Inbound text are functional we will let everyone know the exact date that inbound text will be “live” and can be utilized,” Trigg County Dispatch officials said in the post.

The county said all major mobile providers, including AT&T, Verizon, T-mobile, and Sprint, support the service.

“The public should only text 911 if it is the only option and making a voice call to 911 isn’t possible,” Dispatch leaders explained. “This will allow residents in need of emergency services to reach 911 via text when calling is not an option in times of need.”

Those looking for more information on the “text-to-911” program should contact Trigg County 911 Director Lori Jenkins at 270-522-7445.
