Two Western Kentucky State House candidates have emerged just as the January 28th deadline approaches for candidates to file to run for political office.

Republican Randy Bridges of Paducah has filed to run against Democrat Gerald Watkins for the 3rd district state house seat.  And Democrat David Harrington of Murray is running against Kenny Imes in the 5th district.

Harrington, a graduate of Murray State University, has served as Calloway County Attorney for 5 terms. Before that he served as Assistant County Attorney under Robert O'Miller for 4 years.

"I have served for the people of Calloway County for 25 years," Harrington said in a press release. "My legal career has been dedicated to public service, and as I leave the office of County Attorney, I look forward to continuing to serve my fellow citizens in the State Legislature," said Harrington.

Representative Imes, a Calloway County-native, held the 5th district seat through four terms between 1972 and 1979. He was re-elected to the post in 2012 beating Democrat Hal Kemp. Imes has served on the state government, transportation and veterans, military affairs and public safety committees. He owns Imes Funeral Home in Murray.

Representative Watkins, a Paducah-native, successfully ran against Jason Crocket in 2012. He has served as on the education, judiciary and state government committees. Before election, he was a Political Science professor at West Kentucky Community and Technical College.

Bridges is a real estate agent with RealMax in Paducah and Harrington currently serves as the Calloway county attorney.

Both Harrington and Bridges filed their paperwork with the Kentucky Secretary of State’s office Monday.

Rob Canning is a native of Murray, KY, a 2015 TV Production grad of Murray State. At MSU, he served as team captain of the Murray State Rowing Club. Rob's goal is to become a screenwriter, film director or producer and looks to the likes of Quentin Tarantino and Guy Ritchie for inspiration. He appreciates good music, mainly favoring British rock n' roll, and approves of anything with Jack White's name on it. When not studying, rowing or writing, Rob enjoys spending his free time with a book or guitar.
