Unemployment rates fell in two-thirds of Kentucky’s counties in November 2017, from the previous year.

That’s according to the latest data from the Kentucky Center for Education and Workforce Statistics. Rates fell in 72 counties, increased in 31 and stayed the same in 17.

Woodford County had the lowest jobless rate in at 2.7%, while Magoffin County recorded the highest at 12.7%.

In west Kentucky, the Pennyrile Area jobless rate decreased from 4.9% in 2016 to 4.7% in 2017. Livingston County had the highest (at 6.2%) and Todd had the lowest (at 3.7%).

The Purchase Area remained the same both years with a 5.1% unemployment rate. Ballard had the highest (at 6.4%), while Calloway recorded the lowest (at 4.0%).

The state’s unadjusted unemployment rate was 4.1%, compared to the national rate of 3.9%.

Unemployment statistics are based on estimates and are compiled to measure trends rather than actually to count people working. Civilian labor force statistics include non-military workers and unemployed Kentuckians who are actively seeking work. They do not include unemployed Kentuckians who have not looked for employment within the past four weeks.
