Update: KYTC Confirms, local state representatives respond. See updates below
The speed limits on major roads connecting Murray to the Purchase Parkway and Mayfield to Paducah are set to increase.
In a Facebook post 6th District State Representative Will Coursey said limits on Highway 641 and Highway 45 will increase from 55 miles per hour to 65. He said road crews will start replacing signs Wednesday.
Coursey also thanked people who reached out to him about what he said is a “long overdue change.”
Update:
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet issued a news release Wednesday confirming the limit increase. The speed limit was increased after Cabinet engineers analyzed speed studies and traffic data for these roads. According to the release the limits will still be 55 at certain intersections.
Rep. Richard Heath of Mayfield wrote in a statement, "When this stretch comes up on GPS as a 65 mph zone, tourists, travelers, and businesses will be more inclined to travel the route. While running for office, Governor Bevin said this would be a priority, and I appreciate him fulfilling that promise.”
Rep. Kenny Imes of Murray wrote, "This increase will be another tool in our arsenal to bring industry and manufacturing to our area as it increases the on-time delivery of goods. It will also lure more students to Murray State as the region becomes more easily accessible. I respect and appreciate Governor Bevin fulfilling his commitment to this project."
The orders are effective immediately.
