Walkability Expert Assessing Paducah Tonight

The author of Walkable City: How Downtown Can Save America One Step at a Time, Jeff Speck, gives two presentations in Paducah today. The first was a ticketed event for the Chamber of Commerce at 7:30 a.m. at the Convention Center. Tonight, Speck speaks at Maiden Alley Cinema at 6:30 (seating is limited). On Sounds Good, Kate Lochte speaks with Speck, the former director of design at the National Endowment for the Arts.

Jeff Speck's TED Talk on The Walkable City:

From TED: How do we solve the problem of the suburbs? Urbanist Jeff Speck shows how we can free ourselves from dependence on the car — which he calls "a gas-belching, time-wasting, life-threatening prosthetic device" — by making our cities more walkable and more pleasant for more people.
