A west Kentucky program subsidizing funds to help low income homes pay for high heating costs is collecting applications.

The West Kentucky Allied Services’ Low-Income Home Energy Assistance Program - known as LIHEAP - requires applicants to be responsible for home heating costs.

Applications for homes with the head of the household’s last name beginning with an ‘A’ were collected Monday. Today is the last day for names beginning with ‘B.’ Other applications will be taken in alphabetical order through Dec. 14 using the following schedule:

Applications are collected at local West Kentucky Allied Services’ Offices.

Applicants must not have in excess of $2,000 in liquid resources, or $3,000 if at least one person in the household is age 60 or older or disabled, or $4,000, if a member of the household has an illness which requires liquid resources to be accessed regularly for medical and living expenses.

Applicants must provide the following documentation:

  • Most current heating bill, statement from your landlord if heating expenses are included in your rent, statement from utility company if you participate in a Pre-pay Electric Program.

  • Proof of Social Security Number or Permanent Resident card (Green Card) for each member of the household.

  • Proof of income for every member that had income for the prior month to application.  Zero income forms are available at all offices. If the income is Social Security, SSI, VA, Railroad, or pensions, etc. you must have an award letter.
