Western Kentucky Economic Development Leaders on Bevin's Secretary Pick

via Kentucky's Governor web page

Governor Matt Bevin named Terry Gill for Secretary of the Kentucky Cabinet for Economic Development Wednesday. Gill recently served as president of the marketing service OneTouchPoint and is a board member of the Louisville-based Investment Committee for Access Ventures.

Paducah Economic Development vice president Will McDowell said he hopes Gill will bring his background of working with small businesses to a state level.

“Just looking at Terry’s background, he seems to be allotted in small businesses and entrepreneurship and the background of small communities is small business. So I’m hoping he can bring that expertise to the cabinet.”

Murray Director for Murray State's Small Business Development Center Chris Wooldridge said that Bevin choosing a permanent secretary will help the Commonwealth on all state level economic development issues including recruitment and retention.

“I am sure that after January 1st, we will know better what his priorities and initiatives will be and how those will impact local, regional and state-wide economies.” Wooldridge said.

McDowell also said that he believes Paducah has benefited from the changes Bevin’s administration has made to “reduce the red tape” and make Kentucky more business friendly.
