Paducah to Renew Contract with Symphony for Youth

Paducah is renewing a contract with the Paducah Symphony Orchestra for more than $20,000, up from the amount given last year.

City Manager Jeff Pederson says the annual contract provides in-school ensembles for kindergarten through fifth grade. Sixth through twelfth grade students are provided tickets to see the symphony in concert.

“(The contract) certainly helps expand access to arts venues for children in [the] Paducah community and area. And, it’s something the city commission feels very strong about," Pederson said.

"In fact, they increased the appropriation to the arts. We call it the arts consortium."

He added that the city commission increased funding for arts in this year’s budget. The PSO received $15,390 in the previous budget.

The arts consortium was given $155,000, up $30,000 from last year.

Paducah Public Information Officer Pam Spencer says those funds are split between different organizations, with the Carson Center receiving more due to high operation costs,

Other arts consortium groups include:

  • Maiden Alley Cinema
  • Market House Theater
  • Yeisar Art Center
  • River Discovery Center
  • The Paducah National Quilt Museum
