The special collections library at Murray State University is collecting and digitally preserving photographs of old class photos and schoolhouses in Calloway County.
Pogue Library is partnering with the Calloway County Genealogical and Historical Society for the project. The project involves producing digital copies, allowing people to keep their originals.
"Just letting us be able to make a high-quality scan is great because a lot more people will see these scanned photos than would ever see the one original photo," said Library Assistant Wesley Bolin.
He said so far they have collected over 200 photos from approximately 60 schools. The project involves identifying people in the photos and making them searchable online.
"People all over the world will be able to connect and find photos of ancestors that they didn't know about," Bolin said.
Pogue is hosting a Community Scanning Day from 9 a.m. to noon on August 2.
