An event called the “Super Bowl” of competitive retrieving for dogs is coming to Kentucky this weekend.
The state’s Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources says it’s the first time the Commonwealth is hosting the “National Retriever Championship.”
The event begins Saturday at the Kentucky Department of Fish and Wildlife Resources' West Kentucky Wildlife Management Area near Paducah.
It continues through November 17th, when the national champion will be crowned.
The National Retriever Club’s president says beautiful grounds and good relationships with local officials helped make the western Kentucky site appealing.
Although thousands of retrievers compete in field trials each year, only about 100 qualify for the National Retriever Championship.
