Actress Ashley Judd isn't the only one who has been in the political crosshairs of Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell.

His campaign has collected thousands of documents pertaining to Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes, a Kentucky Democrat considering running against McConnell now that Judd is not. The documents obtained by The Associated Press include travel invoices for Grimes and her staff, even reams of letters from people wanting to be Kentucky Colonels, an honorary designation handled by her office.

State Auditor Adam Edelen is looking for a 2014 democratic victory over Republican incumbent Mitch McConnell. Edelen was the keynote speaker at banquet sponsored by the Murray State College Democrats Saturday evening. He says although he would prefer to see Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes run over Actress Ashley Judd, he will support whoever the party chooses. But he doesn’t think that person should be a man.

Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes stopped in Murray today in an effort to gather public opinion about ways to improve the civic health of the state after finishing the Kentucky Civic Health Index earlier this year. The civic health index identifies strengths and weaknesses in the overall public participation and civic literacy.

Kentucky's secretary of state is planning to explore whether the state should permit early voting. Alison Lundergan Grimes says she plans to hold meetings statewide next year to discuss whether the Commonwealth should change its election laws to allow early and unexcused absentee voting.

To date, the chatter over who'll challenge U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell in 2014 has centered around actress/activist Ashley Judd.

And, if not Judd, then Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky secretary of state.

A top Kentucky Democrat is saying that McConnell's Democratic challenger will be neither of the women.

Ashley Judd is the most discussed potential Democratic candidate to challenge U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell' for his seat in 2014, but not all Kentucky Democratic statewide officers are supporting the idea. Auditor Adam Edelen said he'll be encouraging and supporting Alison Lundergan Grimes, the Kentucky secretary of state, for the 2014 senate race -- because of Grimes' focus on state, not national, issues.

People who want to be considered as write-in candidates in the Nov. 6 election in Kentucky must have their paperwork and filing fee turned in this week. Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes says the deadline is 4 p.m. Eastern Time Friday. Write-in candidates for offices that file with the county clerk must file by 4 p.m. local time Friday. Grimes says under Kentucky law, write-in candidates have to file a declaration of intent and pay a filing fee. Write-in candidates for president and vice president must file a list of presidential electors pledged to the candidates.

Kentucky Secretary of State Alison Lundergan Grimes is in the Middle East this week, part of a group of U.S. officials reviewing military voting procedures.  Grimes says members of the military who are risking their lives abroad must be ensured the right to vote in elections back home.
