Kentucky Congressman James Comer said he doesn’t think President Donald Trump’s tweets regarding four congresswomen of color are racist. Comer spoke on PBS Newshour Monday about Trump’s tweets that four Democrats “go back” to the countries they came from.
President Trump targeted Representatives Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib and Ayanna Pressley in the tweet Sunday. Three of the women were born in the United States.
Comer said he believes the president is frustrated with Congress. “Particularly those four women congressmen who for no other reason constantly criticizes not only the president but Congress and our country,” he said.
Comer said the tweet was “probably not the best-worded” but thinks it has been overblown. He said people need to move on and talk about the issues in Congress that Americans care about.
He said he believes his constituents in Kentucky were not offended by the Tweet and will continue to support the president.
