Paducah Activists Hold “Concert Rally for Peace” Sunday

A concert rally for peace and unity will be held in Paducah this weekend. Singers, poets and activists gather at the Noble Park Amphitheatre Sunday in the wake of recent racially motivated violence.

Social activist and event organizer Jody Surheinrich says the gathering is in cooperation with Black Lives Matter, law enforcement and the City of Paducah. Surheinrich says she received “considerable backlash” on her Facebook page regarding ‘All Lives Matter’ but says her goal for the rally is “less arguing, more listening.”

“ I don’t think people can claim to know the feelings and hurt and loss of a group that they’re not a part of. So absolutely I can try and help get that message out or help them see what ‘Black Lives Matter’ is actually about and who actually is involved,” says Surheinrich.

Surheinrich says there’s “definitely issues” in Paducah regarding race including an underrepresentation of African American police officers.

City commissioners and law enforcement officers will be present as well as nationally known activist, Pastor Renita. The event will begin at 6 p.m.
