Henderson, Kentucky – What follows, "Hey Grandpa, what's for supper?" If the words "Flap jacks fried in bacon drippings, raccoon ribs with collared clippings..." come to mind, you may have caught an episode or two of the classic variety show Hee Haw. The star of that sketch, Grandpa Jones, hails from Henderson County. While the Grandpa himself died more than a decade ago, his life and legacy still circulate the state with the help of Kentucky Chatauqua. Jacque Day brings us this story.
Grandpa Jones is portrayed by artist David Hurt of Frankfort. This segment features portions of Grandpa Jones' original studio recording of "Mountain Dew," as well as David Hurt's live performance of the same. To learn more about Kentucky Chatauqua, visit their website.
