Murray, KY –
The Governor's Award in the Arts is the highest honor bestowed on Kentucky citizens by the Commonwealth. 92 year old Helen LaFrance Orr is among those who received this coveted honor this week. Orr is a self taught painter who primarially engages in memory painting, the process of painting scenes from days gone by. A lifelong Graves County resident, Ms. Orr's paintings have been displayed in galleries across the nation. Well known in her home county as well as the Jackson Purchase, Helen is considered a local treasure. WKMS' Drew Adams sat down with Ms. Orr and spoke at length about her life, her art, and her inspiration.
