Hickman-Fulton Counties Rural Electric Cooperative Corporation and Gibson Electric Membership Corporation are proceeding with an in-depth study on consolidating the Kentucky and Tennessee utilities.
The Hickman-Fulton group had looked at a preliminary financial review with West Kentucky Rural Electric Cooperative and the Gibson EMC, but chose to proceed with the latter.
When the study is finished the boards plan to vote independently on consolidating. If they do so, each company’s members will then vote on approving the merger.
The Hickman-Fulton utility serves 3,700 people and Gibson EMC has 35,000 member in northwest Tennessee.
