Unemployment rates rose across the Pennyrile region and Purchase area from November to December 2018, according to the Kentucky Center for Statistics.
Rates increased in all Pennyrile and Purchase counties except for Caldwell County where the rate stayed the same. Most county rates decreased from December 2017 to December 2018 but unemployment rose in Caldwell, Lyon and Calloway counties.
Kentucky’s county unemployment rates undergo sharp fluctuations due to seasonal events and are not seasonally adjusted because of small sample sizes. The state unemployment rate was 3.8 percent for December 2018, and 3.7 percent for the nation.
