Three communities in west Kentucky ranked among the top in the state for small business owners.
Financial tech company SmartAsset ranked Carlisle County first in Kentucky. Calloway and Crittenden came in 9th and 10th.
According to Steve Sabbato from SmartAsset, Carlisle County led in both the Small Business Returns and Small Business Income categories, which helped them rank number one in the state.
Carlisle County Judge-Executive Greg Terry said the county doesn’t set regulations that can hurt small businesses and provides help through the Purchase Area Development District.
“The PADD Office was put together to help a county administer grants for small business loans and many other things that they can help small counties with and we utilize all those resources to help those small businesses out, any way we can,” Terry said.
The study used the percentage of people in a county with small business income, the proportion of that income to overall income and taxes paid by small business owners to calculate the rankings.
