Heavy rains brought flash flooding to parts of western Kentucky this weekend, closing roads in several counties that officials say have not flooded before. Kentucky Transportation Cabinet spokesman Keith Todd says highway crews in McCracken and Carlisle counties had difficulty getting signs up because water was over so many roads. The National Weather Service has issued flood warnings for counties in far western Kentucky, southern Illinois, and northwestern Tennessee along the Mississippi and lower Ohio rivers. Meteorologist Robin Smith says 5.2 inches of rain had fallen in Paducah since 3 a.m. Saturday, which is about an inch more than normal averages for the entire month. No deaths were reported in the floods.
