A Fort Campbell spokesperson says Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel’s proposed military budget cuts don’t yet have an effect on the Kentucky and Tennessee base.
Garrison spokesperson Bob Jenkins says those cuts are a policy issue.
“We just heard it. People above our level here will make some decisions and let us know,” he said. “They will give us guidance on what to do, and we will carry out whatever those orders are to meet our objectives.”
Hagel proposed $75 billion worth of cuts Monday to prioritize the US’s strategic interests while dealing with reduced resources after more than a decade of war. The proposal calls for reducing the Army to as low as 440,000 active duty soldiers from 520,000 while increasing special operations forces by nearly 4,000.
Hagel testifies on the budget before Congress next week.
