Delayed Financing For Paducah Hotel Prompts City Leaders to Extend Deadline

City of Paducah

The Paducah City Commission has set a deadline for the downtown Hilton Garden Inn developers to secure financing.

Mayor Gayle Kaler says the deadline is an extension from the original date.

“We’re giving the developers a strict deadline of Thursday, January twenty-ninth, to complete the closing of their loan with the bank,” Kaler said. “And we’re also asking the developers to wait until the completion of the quilt show to break ground.”

Construction was slated to begin early this year. Paducah Riverfront Development Authority Director Steve Doolittle says project coordinators have been working through “several significant delays,” including a change to the building’s architectural plans.

City leaders say the goal is to provide accommodation for visitors to the Julian Carroll and Expo Convention Centers, formerly the role of Paducah Executive Inn. The project is also expected to bring over 200 direct and indirect jobs.

Construction on the hotel begins after the annual quilt show ends in late April. The city of Paducah is providing the land and $900,000 for non-hotel improvements including a pedestrian bridge connecting to the Julian Carroll Center, parking accommodations and a $300,000 safety net for the hotel's first five years of business to be repaid.
