Flickr Commons

Of the nearly 200 pardons granted by former KY Governor Steve Beshear during his final hours in office, 38  were for convicted criminals in the West Kentucky region. The majority of the felony convictions were non-violent and related to minor drug trafficking and possession offenses. During his 8 years in office, Beshear received more than 3,400 requests for pardons. Beshear, a former Attorney General, says the pardon requests of the individuals described their mistakes with drugs and highlighted their efforts to stay sober and become productive members of their communities.
