President Barack Obama is calling on Senator Rand Paul to drop his objections to pending international tax treaties so they can move forward in Congress.
Obama says the treaties will help U.S. authorities investigate and crack down on offshore tax evasion.
The president raised the issue at the White House on Friday and called out the Republican senator while promoting new financial regulations that would force companies to disclose more information about their owners.
The steps are being billed as a crackdown on tax evaders and money launderers.
Obama says Paul has been "a little quirky" on the issue. Paul responded in a post on Twitter saying “privacy and 4th Amendment rights are not ‘quirky.’”
Privacy and 4th Amendment rights are not "quirky," @POTUS. https://t.co/7B1zlmZqsg
