Tennessee's secretary of state and Department of Health are working together to give away hangtags to remind people not to leave a child inside a parked car and to provide a simple way to register to vote.
The office of Secretary of State Tre Hargett created 500,000 hangtags with a QR code that takes users to the online voter registration system with one click and reminds drivers to check the back seat for children.
Hargett's office said in a news release that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports child deaths from heatstroke in cars have increased in recent years. The hangtags will be distributed statewide.
