Murray ALS Walk 'Unlocks' Community Engagement

A medical research fundraising group is 'unlocking' new ways to reach the community during Murray’s annual 5k and walk tomorrow.

Lena Isaacs is the ALS Association Kentucky Chapter events manager. She says it's been a little more than ten years since the ALS Association became involved with the local walk.

This year they are adding the national UNLOCK ALS campaign to help engage walkers with each other during the event.

UNLOCK ALS provides lanyards to participants that tell how ALS has personally affected them. Isaacs hopes the lanyards will help people have conversations they may not have had before.

This year's walk is tomorrow morning. Check in begins at 8:30 a.m on Murray State Campus. The walk begins at 10:15.

Shelby Frye is a senior at Murray State University, double majoring in theatre and journalism. She has lived in Murray for four years, but grew up in Paris, Tennessee. When she isn’t working at WKMS, Shelby performs in and works on crew for Murray State Theatre productions, plays Dungeons & Dragons, and keeps her plate full with her dual majors.
