Hopkinsville May Take Out Loan for Parks Improvements

By Chris Taylor

Hopkinsville, KY – Hopkinsville officials want to borrow almost one-and-a-half million dollars to finance improvements at its city parks. Hopkinsville-Christian County Planning Commission Director Steve Bourne says he hopes the city won't have to repay the loan from its own pocketbook, but instead use federal grant funds. The city has been a regular recipient of Community Development Block Grants from the US Department of Housing and Urban Development since the early 90s. The loan would finance new lighting, landscaping, benches and playground items in seven of the city's parks. The City Council is expected to consider the loan application at its meeting tonight.
