Frankfort, KY – Kentucky is one of fourteen states left out of the first round of federal "Race to the Top" education funding. Kentucky was one of the finalists, but lost out to Tennessee and Delaware. Kentucky Education Commissioner Terry Holliday says state officials will begin reviewing the scores and comments on Kentucky's application and planning for the second round immediately. Over three billion dollars in funding are still available, and all states who missed out for the first round can apply for the second, which begins in June. Holliday says even if Kentucky does not receive the funds, the state will continue to move forward with the education reform plan outlined in the Race to the Top application.
