Paducah Officials Backtrack on Comments

By Chris Taylor

Paducah, KY – Many Paducah city officials are saying they've always known the state building code restricts the newly erected air-dome pavilion next to the Julian Carroll Convention Center to only stay up for 180 days. However, many of those statements conflict with comments made since last month that the temporary structure could be left up year round; even generating rental revenue. The Paducah Sun reports Mayor Bill Paxton, Commissioners Gerald Watkins and Gayle Kaler, Downtown Development Director Steve Doolittle and Building Inspector Joel Scarbrough all say confusion on the subject never existed. The newspaper reported at least eight times that the plan was to leave the pavilion up all year and claims no one with the city disputed it.
