Frankfort, KY – Kentucky Transportation Cabinet workers along with thousands of other state workers will take an unpaid day off work Friday as part of the state's budget balancing plan. Public Information Officer Keith Todd says, the Friday furlough will close the regional offices. But, he says staff is on-call for emergencies.
"Say a traffic crash where the state employees or one of the sheriff's departments needs our help to set up a detour around a crash site, we will have people on call to help with things like that."
Friday is the first of six furlough days for state employees for Fiscal Year 2010-2011. The next furlough day takes place in October. Kentucky State Police are exempted, and will be on full patrol Friday for the lead-in to the busy holiday weekend.
