Cumberland City, TN – TVA's coal power operation in Cumberland City, Tennessee contains the only coal ash facility given a high hazard rating in a recent assessment. Geotechnical engineers looked at TVA facilities' coal ash ponds and found the Cumberland plant's ash storage setup could cause erosion under a nearby bridge and destabilize it if a break were to occur. The issue is not an immediate threat and TVA says it is addressing the concerns. The Clarksville Leaf Chronicle reports one engineering solution being recommended will be to install shielding to protect the base of the bridge.
