Murray, KY – As temperatures hang close to zero this evening many homeowners are running their water faucets to prevent frozen pipes. But Murray Plumber Kent Price says while running water will not freeze, leaving the faucet running can cause other problems.
"Slower-moving water, once it gets in the drain, is susceptible to freezing. So you wouldn't want to just turn it on and leave it and be gone for a day or two because your drain could freeze and that water would spill out into your house. So if you're there and can monitor it, that would be another good way to help keep your pipes from freezing."
Price also suggests leaving cabinet doors open to allow heat to reach water pipes.
